Mental Health First Aid - Adult Course
What is Mental Health First Aid? Internationally recognised, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a bespoke training course which aims to teach people how to spot the early signs and symptoms of mental health issues, providing essential help and guidance through important first aid techniques. Whilst MHFA won't teach you to be a therapist, MHFA aims to teach you the valuable physical first aid skills to identify, support, listen to and signpost those who are struggling with mental health issues, even in a crisis.
How is the course delivered?
Adult Mental Health First Aid courses are available for everyone aged 16 and over, teaching practical first aid skills that could be used daily, allowing you to confidently identify when mental health issues may arise in adults and provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to resolve many different issues. Every MHFA course is delivered by a quality assured instructor who has attended the Mental Health First Aid Instructor Training programme accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health and is trained to keep people safe and supported while they learn.
Over many years, we have gained extensive experience that has shown us that the valuable skills gained from MHFA has made it a very popular course and can be extremely effective when it is integrated into company policies. Independent research and evaluation has shown that taking part in an MHFA course raises awareness and allows people to understand how to successfully deal with vulnerable people with mental health issues.
By reducing the stigma around mental health, Adult Mental Health First Aid courses encourages important conversations about mental health in a constructive manner, boosting knowledge and confidence in supporting vulnerable people. What is the duration of the course?
The Adult Mental Health First Aid courses promotes early intervention, lasting for 2 full days of intensive training, delivered in 4 sessions as follows:

- Stress and vulnerability
- Depression
Session 2
- Suicide
- Non-judgemental listening
- First aid actions for people at risk of suicide
- Depression and suicide
Session 3
- Anxiety disorders
- Prevalence, type and symptoms
- ating disorders
- Self-harm
- First Aid actions for Anxiety
Session 4
- Psychosis
- Prevalence and type
- Non-judgemental listening
- First aid actions for psychosis
Everyone who takes part in the course will receive a copy of the Adult Mental Health First Aid courses manual and workbook, which are excellent support resources to assist you whilst you are completing the course. Once you have completed the course, you will also receive a certificate to confirm that you are a trained Mental Health First Aider.
